Kwara State Ministry Rescues 30 Children from Orphanage

The Ministry of Social Development in Kwara State conducted a rescue operation, saving 30 children aged between two and 15 from an illegal orphanage. The children are now receiving proper care, medical attention, and psychosocial support at a government-approved shelter.

Commissioner for Social Development, Mariam Imam, stated that the intervention was designed to safeguard the children's rights and welfare, assess their immediate needs, and evaluate their health and educational conditions. The children are undergoing comprehensive medical screening, nutrition support, and psychosocial counseling.

The ministry is also working on family tracing and reunification where appropriate. Children unable to reunite with their families will be considered for placement in approved care facilities, ensuring their individual needs are met.

Imam directed that all orphanages and child-care institutions in Kwara State must be registered and approved by the ministry, with clear signage for public identification. Director of Social Work, Hamzat Abdulfatah, noted that the intervention has strengthened collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the children's welfare.
