Newlywed Arrested for Cocaine Trafficking at Enugu Airport
Lovely Chukwulobelu, a 25-year-old newlywed businessman, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, on September 25, 2026. He was attempting to traffic 72 wraps of cocaine to Portugal concealed in his stomach.
Chukwulobelu, who resides in Portugal, had returned to Nigeria for his wedding on September 13, 2026, and resorted to drug trafficking to cover the expenses incurred during the event. He was intercepted by NDLEA operatives at the airport's departure hall while preparing to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Portugal via Addis Ababa.
During his arrest, he was still wearing his wedding ring. Following his apprehension, he was placed under excretion observation, during which he egested the cocaine.
The NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, provided details of the arrest in a statement.
