Nigeria to Compete in 2026 NFL Flag Africa Championship

The Nigerian Federation of American Football (NFAF) announced that Nigeria's men's and women's teams will participate in the 2026 NFL Flag Africa Championship, scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from July 9 to July 11. This tournament marks the third NFL Flag Continental Championship and will include teams from five nations: Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, and South Africa.

Additionally, there will be a co-ed youth tournament featuring 10-player squads from various nations. The NFAF expressed pride in representing Nigeria and emphasized the opportunity for athletes to compete and grow.

The event is organized in partnership with the NFL and the Kenyan Federation of American Football, with local support. The competition will also include a workout schedule on July 11, providing athletes a chance to be assessed by NFL representatives as part of the league's NFL Africa program.

The NFAF aims to continue developing flag football in Nigeria, which is recognized as one of the fastest-growing sports globally and is set to debut in the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
