NFSC Attributes Nigeria Teams' Failures to Marginalization

The Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) has identified marginalization and the exclusion of its 70-year-old organization as significant factors contributing to the failure of Nigeria's national teams to qualify for major tournaments. In a letter dated August 16, 2026, addressed to the Nigeria Football Federation's Ad-hoc Committee investigating these failures, the NFSC, led by National Chairman Rev. (Amb.) Samuel Ikpea, emphasized that their absence has weakened fan mobilization and support for the teams.

The NFSC has historically served as the "12th man" for the Super Eagles and other national teams, playing a crucial role in boosting morale and creating a home advantage. The letter also highlighted the disconnect between the NFSC and the Nigeria Football Federation, which has resulted in poor fan turnout and diminished emotional connections between players and supporters.

The NFSC urged the NFF to reintegrate them into national team program planning, citing that successful footballing nations treat their supporters as critical stakeholders. They expressed eagerness to make further contributions to improve Nigerian football.
