NGO Urges Action on Housing Crisis in Kogi State

The non-governmental organization Pibcid, led by Executive Director Akand Racheal Remilekun, has expressed alarm over the increasing housing costs and alleged exploitation by housing agents in Kogi State. In a statement issued to commemorate the 2026 International Women's Day, the organization highlighted that the rising costs of housing are particularly impacting vulnerable groups, including women, low-income families, widows, people with disabilities, students, and orphans.

The NGO noted that these groups are facing significant challenges in securing decent accommodation, with many being forced to live in overcrowded and unsafe environments, which increases their risk of homelessness. Pibcid has called on Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo and relevant stakeholders to urgently address the growing housing crisis in the state, emphasizing that access to safe and affordable housing is a basic human need essential for dignity and economic stability.
