NGX Market Wrap 27-Aug-2026 | Plus234Feed
The Nigerian Exchange closed at 239,156.09 points with mixed momentum, as select gainers including OMATEK, CORNERST, and MANSARD posted strong rallies while pharmaceutical and fintech stocks faced significant headwinds. Trading activity remained robust with ₦35.1 billion in value exchanged across 40,323 deals.
The NGX delivered a bifurcated session on Thursday, with selective strength in mid-cap equities unable to offset weakness in heavyweight sectors. The ASI settled at 239,156.09 points amid 499.9 million shares traded worth ₦35.1 billion—indicating steady institutional participation despite directional uncertainty.
Top gainers reflected divergent narratives. OMATEK surged 9.60% to ₦1.37, CORNERST climbed 9.18% to ₦5.35, and MANSARD advanced 9.09% to ₦12.00, signalling tactical rotation into undervalued plays. Insurance and micro-cap segments attracted aggressive buying. However, this momentum proved insufficient to shelter the market from selling pressure in heavyweight constituencies.
Pharmaceutical heavyweight FIDSON suffered the day's steepest loss, declining 9.98% (₦8.40 drop) to ₦75.80, while fintech darling LEARNAFRCA fell 9.84% (₦0.95 loss) to ₦8.70. INTENEGINS and LEGENDINT similarly surrendered 9.84% and 8.43% respectively, suggesting profit-taking across growth narratives.
Liquidity concentrated predictably in blue-chips: ZENITHBANK dominated turnover with 69.9 million shares, followed by ACCESSCORP (45.4 million) and GTCO (37.5 million). This volume concentration underscores retail caution toward secondary equities despite their outperformance.
The market cap held steady at ₦154.4 trillion, reflecting price stability despite mixed sentiment. Today's session exemplified the current market environment—tactical opportunities in undervalued names coexisting with profit-taking in premium valuations.
Watch for sector rotation patterns in tomorrow's session as investors reassess position sizing ahead of month-end rebalancing.
