The Nigerian Exchange closed at 242,789.68 points with mixed momentum as financial stocks drove gains while consumer-facing equities faced selling pressure. Trading activity remained robust with ₦15.78 billion in daily turnover across 51,103 deals.

Today's session reflected a market divided between sector strength and selective weakness, with the ASI holding steady at 242,789.68 points amid ₦15.78 billion in total value traded.

The standout performer was NGXGROUP, which surged ₦14.80 (+10.00%) to ₦162.80, signalling renewed confidence in the exchange operator itself—a bellwether for market sentiment. Financial sector stocks provided additional lift, with CUSTODIAN climbing ₦5.00 (+7.14%) to ₦75.00, suggesting institutional appetite for defensive blue chips.

However, the retail and consumer goods space told a different story. JOHNHOLT dropped ₦0.90 (-10.00%) to ₦8.10, while ELLAHLAKES fell ₦1.00 (-9.80%) to ₦9.20, indicating profit-taking or weakening demand in discretionary spending stocks. LEARNAFRCA and DAARCOMM also declined by 8.67% and 8.50% respectively, extending losses across smaller-cap consumer names.

Volume concentration in STERLINGNG (73.5 million shares), MBENEFIT (41.8 million), and CHAMS (27.4 million) reveals traders rotating into established banking and fintech plays rather than broader market participation. This selective activity—coupled with modest gainers tempered by notable losers—suggests market participants remain cautious despite the ₦157.4 trillion market capitalisation.

Investors should watch whether tomorrow's session sustains financial sector momentum or pivots toward value hunting in oversold consumer stocks.
