The Nigerian Exchange closed Friday with a modest 0.41% gain, lifting the All-Share Index to 253,157.77 points as investors navigated mixed signals across sectors. While fixed-income securities and some consumer stocks rallied, losses in financial services and payment technology stocks tempered broader market enthusiasm.

The NGX closed the trading week on a cautiously optimistic note, with the All-Share Index advancing 0.41% to 253,157.77 points. The session reflected the market's characteristic ambivalence as bargain hunting in select pockets competed against profit-taking in others.

Fixed-income securities dominated the gainers' list. Bond-linked stocks FGSUK2032S7 and FGSUK2027S3 surged 13.19% and 10.21% respectively, suggesting investor appetite for yield-bearing instruments may be strengthening. This rally likely reflects positioning ahead of potential interest rate decisions or fiscal announcements.

Consumer staples also showed resilience. HONYFLOUR and MAYBAKER each gained 10%, climbing ₦2.05 and ₦3.80 respectively, while LIVESTOCK added 9.92%. This cluster suggests stable demand expectations within the food production and distribution chain, a sector traditionally viewed as defensive.

However, financial services and fintech stocks bore the brunt of selling. HMCALL and CAVERTON each fell 10%, losing ₦0.33 and ₦0.40 respectively. ETRANZACT declined 9.94% to ₦15.85, signalling renewed caution in the payments and technology space. This weakness may reflect sector-wide profit-taking or concerns about rising operational costs.

Tradng activity remained robust with 932.96 million shares valued at ₦82.66 billion across 34,937 deals. FIRSTHOLDCO dominated volume with 580 million shares, underlining its role as a liquidity anchor.

Investors should monitor whether the fixed-income rally sustains or if financial sector weakness broadens in the next session.
