NHIA-FFP Partnership: Over 2,000 Women Receive Free Fistula Surgical Repair

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in partnership with the Fistula Free Programme (FFP) has provided over 2,000 women in Nigeria with free fistula surgical repair and emergency obstetrics care from January to May 2025. The Principal Officer of NHIA, Agi Amogor, highlighted the success of the program during a meeting in Calabar, Cross River State.

The FFP, launched in June 2024, aims to address the estimated new cases of obstetric fistula recorded annually in Nigeria. In Cross River State, 247 beneficiaries were treated at various healthcare facilities.

Additionally, the NHIA has expanded its services to include cancer treatment, covering 50% of the costs for 200 patients nationwide. The NHIA emphasized the importance of health insurance in providing quality and affordable healthcare, urging all Nigerians to take advantage of the services offered.

The NHIA and FFP collaboration has significantly improved access to essential health services in Cross River State.
