NHIA Partners Roche On Cancer Patients’ Treatment

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has partnered with Roche Pharmaceuticals to improve access to oncology care for cancer patients in Nigeria. The collaboration aims to reduce financial barriers for patients enrolled in the health insurance scheme, enhancing cancer care accessibility and treatment outcomes.

Roche will cover 50% of the medication costs, NHIA 30%, leaving patients to cover the remaining 20%. This initiative addresses the high cost of cancer treatment, ensuring fairness and equity in healthcare access.

Dr. Dara Olatoke of Roche emphasized the importance of insurance partnerships in supporting patients on their treatment journey.

Dr. Saka Agboola of NHIA highlighted the agency's commitment to reducing the financial burden on vulnerable Nigerians.

Dr. Suleiman Olaide of UITH praised the initiative but urged NHIA to further reduce the patient's share of costs to ensure more patients benefit.
