NIDS Urges Vaccine Self-Reliance to Combat Infectious Diseases in Nigeria

The Nigerian Infectious Diseases Society (NIDS) issued a warning at its 16th annual general meeting in Kaduna, identifying cholera, meningitis, lassa fever, tuberculosis, HIV, and other diseases as escalating threats. The conference emphasized the need for a resilient health system to address emerging infectious diseases, urging Nigeria to strengthen governance, financing, and healthcare workforce.

NIDS stressed the importance of achieving vaccine self-reliance through collaboration among government, academia, industry, and regulatory bodies to develop domestic vaccine production capabilities. Dr.

Mahmood Muazu Dalhat, the new president of NIDS, highlighted the critical need for sustainable investments in disease prevention and response.
