Niger Delta Games Torch Begins Tour of States, Promoting Unity and Sportsmanship

The second edition of the Niger Delta Games Torch commenced its journey in Calabar, Cross River State, with Benin, Edo State as the next host city. The torch, symbolizing the games, will pass through the capitals of nine participating states in the Niger Delta region.

The torchbearer, Patience Okon George, led the sports commission officials and athletes in the ceremony at the U. J.

Esuene Stadium. State officials, including the Deputy Governor Rt Hon Peter Odei and Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, chairman of Dunami Icon Limited, received the torch.

The event featured colorful processions, local dances, and entertainment to promote the upcoming games. The tour will continue to Akwa Ibom State next, followed by Abia, Imo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, and Ondo states.

The torch lighting ceremony at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium symbolizes the commencement of the games in each host state. The Niger Delta Games are organized by Dunami Icon Limited and sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
