Mob Lynches Kidnapping Suspect in Niger State Incident

On February 17, 2026, a man suspected of being involved in kidnapping activities was lynched by a mob in Tafa, Niger State. The individual was found in possession of three AK-47 rifles and 104 rounds of ammunition after an accident involving a motorcycle.

The incident occurred near the Boyi Sarki toll gate area, where the crowd became violent after police attempted to assist the victim of the accident. The police spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, while the state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, condemned the act of mob justice.

The police have initiated an investigation to arrest those involved in the lynching and ascertain the source of the firearms. The body of the lynched man was taken to a general hospital morgue in Suleja, and the police are urging the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
