NSIB Investigates Rigasa-Idu Train Incident on September 16

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation into a railway incident that occurred on September 16 at approximately 09:16 hours along the Rigasa-Idu passenger service corridor, near Asham station in Kaduna State. The incident involved a train identified as KA2, which had departed Rigasa railway station at 07:15 hours and was scheduled to arrive at Idu station in Abuja.

After stopping at Jere station at 08:52 hours, a rear locomotive detached and rolled forward, striking the rear portion of the train. The train consisted of two locomotives, a power car, two business class coaches, and six standard passenger coaches, carrying a total of 429 passengers, including 46 crew members and 24 security personnel.

Fortunately, there were no fatalities, and passengers received first aid from medical personnel onboard. Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General of NSIB, expressed concern for the affected passengers and emphasized the bureau's commitment to uncovering the facts behind the incident to ensure safer railway operations in Nigeria.
