NSIB and Sierra Leone Bureau Sign MoU for Aviation Safety

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Sierra Leone Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (SLAIIB) have formalized their collaboration by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening aviation safety in West Africa. The agreement was signed at the NSIB headquarters and was made public in a statement on Tuesday.

Under this MoU, both agencies commit to conducting joint investigations, exchanging technical expertise, and improving safety outcomes within their jurisdictions. They will engage in training programs and share safety data and technical knowledge, which includes flight record analysis and access to investigative equipment.

The partnership, described by NSIB Director General Alex Badeh Jr. as a strategic step, is designed to enhance the quality and speed of accident investigations, thereby preventing future occurrences. The agreement also allows for the deployment of expert teams, including flight record specialists and forensic personnel, to support investigations at no cost to the requesting country.

Olubunmi Wellington, representing the Sierra Leone bureau, noted that this partnership presents significant opportunities for improving aviation safety in the sub-region.
