Nigeria and Cameroon Enhance Air Safety with New Agreement

On Friday, Nigeria and Cameroon formalized a bilateral agreement aimed at improving air safety and enhancing technical cooperation in search and rescue operations across their shared airspace. The agreement was signed in Yaoundé, Cameroon, following high-level discussions between Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Cameroon's Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Ngalngal Bibeh.

The Nigerian delegation included key figures such as the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency. This agreement is intended to enable faster coordination and response to aviation emergencies occurring near the shared border.

The signing follows a recent incident where a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft made an emergency landing in Burkina Faso due to technical faults, leading to the detention of military personnel by Burkinabé authorities. The agreement aims to establish a unified approach to implementing cooperative measures in aviation safety.
