Nigeria and China Strengthen Cultural Ties in Abuja

Nigeria and China have committed to strengthening their bilateral relations through cultural exchange, scientific innovation, technology transfer, and agricultural cooperation. This commitment was reaffirmed during the “Seasonal Life & Harmonious China” Cultural Exhibition held on Saturday in Abuja at the China Cultural Center, part of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Yang Jianxing, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, emphasized that cultural exchange promotes mutual understanding between the two nations. The exhibition featured traditional Chinese culture, including the Twenty-Four Solar Terms, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Dr Mukhtar Yawale Muhammed, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, noted the evolving partnership between Nigeria and China, which now encompasses agriculture, science, technology, and innovation. He highlighted China's zero-tariff policy for products from 53 African countries, presenting opportunities for Nigerian agricultural exports like sesame and cocoa.
