Nigeria and China Strengthen Cultural Ties in Abuja

Nigeria and China reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations through cultural exchange, scientific innovation, technology transfer, and agricultural cooperation during the “Seasonal Life & Harmonious China” Cultural Exhibition in Abuja on Saturday. This event was part of the activities marking the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges and coincided with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Yang Jianxing, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, emphasized that cultural exchange is vital for fostering mutual understanding. The exhibition featured traditional Chinese culture, including the Twenty-Four Solar Terms, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Dr Mukhtar Yawale Muhammed, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, noted the evolving partnership between Nigeria and China, which now encompasses agriculture, science, technology, and innovation. He highlighted China’s zero-tariff policy for products from 53 African countries, which offers opportunities for Nigerian agricultural exports.
