Nigeria Offers Condolences to Colombia After Earthquake

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has expressed profound sorrow and deepest sympathy to the Republic of Colombia after a devastating magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia on 10 August 2026. This earthquake, the strongest recorded in Colombia this century, resulted in significant loss of life, numerous injuries, and extensive damage to homes, hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure in regions including Chocó, Valle del Cauca, and Risaralda.

The Nigerian government extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected and wished for a speedy recovery for the injured. Nigeria affirmed its solidarity with the Colombian people during this period of national mourning and recovery, expressing confidence in their resilience and the leadership of President Abelardo de la Espriella as they engage in search-and-rescue operations and begin rebuilding efforts.
