Nigeria Celebrates Korea's 81st Independence Anniversary

The Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria congratulated the Republic of Korea on the occasion of its 81st National Liberation Day, celebrated on 15 August 2026. This day commemorates the end of Japanese colonial rule in 1945 and symbolizes the resilience and unity of the Korean people.

Nigeria and Korea have maintained formal diplomatic relations since February 1980, fostering a robust partnership based on mutual respect and shared values. Nigeria is Korea's most significant trading and investment partner in Africa, with bilateral trade growing substantially.

Korean companies have made significant contributions to Nigeria's infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, and technology sectors. The cooperation extends to education, digital transformation, renewable energy, and security collaboration.

Nigeria appreciates the role of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in supporting its development agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope vision. Nigeria aims to deepen this strategic partnership, focusing on critical minerals, smart manufacturing, green energy, and democratic governance.
