Nigeria and North Korea Strengthen Cooperation Ties

Nigeria and North Korea have renewed their commitment to mutual cooperation, as highlighted during a courtesy visit by North Korean Ambassador Jo Yong Sam to Nigeria. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma, congratulated Jo Yong Sam on his appointment and expressed confidence in the relationship established in 1976, which continues to grow.

The discussions acknowledged North Korea's support for Nigeria's candidacy in international organizations and reiterated Nigeria's commitment to peace and dialogue for stability on the Korean Peninsula. Ambassador Dunoma called for the resumption of cultural exchanges, particularly in film and creative arts, and proposed convening the fifth session of the Nigeria-North Korea Joint Commission in Pyongyang.

He advocated for stronger reciprocal cooperation, including land allocation for a permanent Nigerian embassy in Pyongyang and increased employment opportunities for Nigerians at the DPRK embassy in Abuja. Jo Yong Sam praised Nigeria's leadership role in Africa and commended the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu.
