Nigeria Wins $6.2M Arbitration Against UK Tech Firm

Nigeria has achieved a significant legal victory by defeating European Dynamics UK Ltd in an arbitration case involving a $6.2 million dispute related to a national e-procurement project. The arbitration tribunal, led by Kamarudeen Ogundele, ruled in favor of Nigeria, dismissing the contractor's claims entirely.

The claims included $2.4 million for alleged milestone completion, $3 million in general damages, and an additional $800,000 settlement claim. The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, praised the outcome, emphasizing that it prevents potential financial exposure for Nigeria estimated at approximately N9.3 billion.

The Nigeria Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) argued that the contractor failed to meet contractual obligations, and the tribunal upheld this position. The ruling is not subject to appeal and reinforces the importance of rigorous user acceptance testing in government technology projects.

This case marks a notable success for Nigeria in international arbitration, particularly against European contractors.
