Nigeria Studies Indonesia's Anti-Corruption Approaches

Nigeria is exploring Indonesia’s anti-corruption strategies to bolster its fight against corruption, as stated by Dr Musa Aliyu, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), during the second edition of the International Diplomatic Dialogue in Abuja. The dialogue, organized by the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), focused on the significant role of international cooperation in combating corruption, which Dr Aliyu identified as a barrier to sustainable development and public trust.

He noted that Nigeria could learn from Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), particularly in institutional reforms and enforcement strategies. Mrs Tuty Dityawanty, representing the Indonesian Ambassador, highlighted the KPK's achievements since its establishment in 2003, including the prosecution of high-profile officials.

She detailed the agency's functions, including investigations and asset declaration systems, which contribute to its effectiveness in reducing corruption. Professor Sheriff Ibrahim from ACAN referenced the Bandung Conference's principles as foundational for anti-corruption efforts in Africa.
