Inkosi Brou Becomes First Nigerian in World Junior Fencing Top 10

Inkosi Brou has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Nigerian fencer to rank among the top 10 junior fencers in the world, specifically placing 10th in the men's sabre category with 750 points, according to the latest rankings released by the International Fencing Federation. At 18 years old, Brou is the second highest-ranked African fencer, following Egypt's Ahm Hesham, who is ranked seventh with 76,000 points.

Despite a quarter-final exit at the 2026 African Junior Fencing Championship in Dakar, Brou's rise in the sport has been propelled by a sixth-place finish at the 2026 FIE World Cup in Dakar. He is the grandson of former NAFDAC director general Prof.

Dora Akunyili and began representing Nigeria globally in October 2023. Brou has also won Nigeria's first-ever global men's sabre medal, a silver at the World Tournoi Satellite Cup in Iceland, and a bronze at the 2025 African Junior Championship in Luanda.

He aims to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Nigeria Fencing Federation President Adeyinka Samuel described Brou's achievement as a major boost for the sport in Nigeria, which is rapidly gaining recognition among elite fencing nations.
