Nigeria and Germany Strengthen Bilateral Ties in Abuja

On Wednesday in Abuja, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. They discussed expanded cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, digital innovation, manufacturing, security, and human capital development.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu described Germany as one of Nigeria’s most important strategic partners in Europe, emphasizing that their relationship has evolved beyond traditional diplomacy to include trade, investment, and development cooperation. She highlighted the significance of their partnership amid global challenges like terrorism, climate change, and economic uncertainties.

The Nigeria-Germany Bi-National Commission was noted as a key platform for advancing these relations, with Nigeria implementing agreements aimed at improving the investment climate and governance. Odumegwu-Ojukwu also acknowledged Germany’s support for ECOWAS in promoting regional integration and security, stressing the need for continued international cooperation against regional threats.
