Nigerian Immigration Officer Shoots and Kills Nigerien at Katsina Border

In a tragic incident at the Katsina border on February 3, 2026, a Nigerian Immigration officer shot and killed a 30-year-old Nigerien motorcyclist, Dari Bace Bace, for allegedly failing to stop at a routine border checkpoint in the Baur Local Government Area near the Nigeria-Niger Republic border. The victim sustained severe injuries to the head and was initially taken to a general hospital in Baur before being transferred to the Federal Medical Center in Daura for treatment.

The officer, identified as Inspector Tijjani Mai Kaho, reportedly fled the scene and is currently at large. The Katsina State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the incident, with security operations underway to locate the fleeing officer.

The border area has been secured to preserve evidence, and efforts are ongoing to prevent smuggling and illegal crossings.
