Nigeria Promotes 70,000 Paramilitary Officers for Security

The Nigerian government has announced the promotion of 70,000 paramilitary officers as part of a significant reform in the country’s internal security architecture. Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji Ojo made this announcement during a retreat in Abuja, emphasizing the commitment of President Bola Tinubu's administration to improve morale and restore professionalism within paramilitary services.

The promotions, approved for implementation in April and May 2026, reflect a strategic shift towards data-driven border management. Additionally, the Nigeria Immigration Service inaugurated an Integrated Operations Centre equipped with advanced surveillance technology to provide real-time intelligence on immigration violations.

This center aims to enhance border security and manage foreign overstays effectively. The retreat also served as a platform for reviewing stewardship and aligning operations with national priorities, with Dr.

Magdalen Ajani highlighting the importance of these reforms in addressing daily security challenges faced by Nigerians.
