Nigeria's Defence Headquarters X Account Hacked

The Defence Headquarters of Nigeria announced that its official X account has been compromised, with Major General Samaila Uba issuing a statement on Saturday evening. The account, which has over 980,000 followers, was flooded with cryptocurrency-related posts that do not pertain to the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Uba indicated that the incident is being treated as a cybersecurity issue, with technical measures activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorized access. While the spokesperson did not disclose when the account was hacked or who was responsible, he assured the public that efforts are underway to restore control of the account.

The Defence Headquarters urged the public to disregard any suspicious or misleading posts from the compromised account, emphasizing the importance of accurate information regarding military operations. Uba advised the public to use alternative official channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, for verified information during the recovery process and promised further updates as the situation progresses.
