Adebayo Warns Against 'One-Man Rule' in Nigeria

Adewol Adebayo, the presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), issued a warning against the growing threat of 'one-man rule' in Nigeria during the party's national convention held on Saturday in Bauchi. He urged political leaders to focus on addressing critical issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, and unemployment across the country.

Adebayo expressed concerns over the worsening governance challenges, including rising poverty and poor access to economic opportunities for young people. He criticized political leaders who seek medical treatment abroad while neglecting public institutions at home, which he claimed are in decline.

Adebayo also questioned the handling of terrorism and crime in the country, insisting that Nigerians deserve better protection from security agencies. He warned that rising political intolerance undermines democracy, stating that democracy thrives when different political parties can compete freely.

Usman Bugaj, the chairman of the SDP national convention, accused the ruling party of shrinking democratic space and weakening opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
