Shehu Sani Advocates Youth Engagement in National Development

On Friday, Shehu Sani, a former Senator and human rights activist, delivered a special lecture at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, titled “Rethinking Development in Nigeria: Key Lessons and Prospects for the Future.” He called for a renewed commitment to quality education, accountable leadership, youth inclusion, and the prudent management of Nigeria’s resources as essential for national development. Sani noted Nigeria's potential, citing its skilled workforce and abundant resources, but lamented the country's failure to harness these for sustainable development.

He stressed the importance of learning from past decisions and urged young Nigerians to engage in civic participation to tackle issues like unemployment and corruption. The lecture was the first of the 2025/2026 session and featured insights from experienced Nigerians.

Professor Gbenga Fasiku, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, Vice-Chancellor of OAU, praised Sani's contributions. Students found the lecture inspiring, motivating them to take a greater interest in leadership.
