GTCO's Segun Agbaje Advocates for Autism Support

During the 16th GTCO Autism Conference in Lagos, Mr. Segun Agbaje, Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO), called for a transition from mere awareness of autism to practical classroom skills that support neurodivergent students. The conference, themed “Acceptance in Action,” highlighted the need for active inclusion and skill acquisition in the education sector.

Agbaje noted that while 16 years of advocacy have reduced the stigma around autism, many older adults are only now realizing their condition due to a lack of proper diagnosis and support. He stressed the importance of equipping families, schools, and workplaces with tools to manage autism effectively.

Agbaje stated, “Over a 16-year period, we have done a decent job of creating awareness,” and emphasized the continuous journey of advocacy and educational adaptation. The conference featured expert panels addressing practical strategies for educators and caregivers, focusing on communication, regulation, and daily routines to support autistic learners.
