Nigeria, Netherlands Sign Joint Declaration on Customs

The Nigeria Customs Service and the Netherlands Customs have reinforced their commitment to customs modernization by signing a joint declaration in Brussels. The declaration, signed by Adewale Adeniyi, Director General of Nigeria Customs Service, and Nanett van Schelven, Director General of Netherlands Customs, establishes a framework for enhanced cooperation in trade facilitation, intelligence sharing, and border security.

This agreement follows a visit by the Nigeria Customs Service to the Netherlands in October 2025 and a reciprocal visit by a Dutch customs delegation to Nigeria in March 2026. Adeniyi described the joint declaration as a milestone in efforts to strengthen international partnerships and align Nigeria's customs administration with global best practices.

The partnership aims to address shared challenges in the evolving global trade environment, ensuring efficient and transparent trade processes. The declaration provides a foundation for developing a joint work plan focused on improving border efficiency, strengthening supply chain security, and promoting fair trade practices.
