Canada Strengthens Partnership with Nigeria in Abuja

On Wednesday, Canada reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria by unveiling an expanded cooperation agenda. David Sproul, Canada's Chargé d'Affaires, described Nigeria as a strategic partner in Africa and emphasized the importance of mutual benefits founded on trust and shared prosperity.

The cooperation agenda includes sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, mining, healthcare, and skills development. Sproul noted that the two countries have expanded collaboration over the years, particularly in healthcare, education, governance, women's empowerment, trade, and security.

He highlighted the recent high-level diplomatic engagements and the Canadian government's commitment to sustaining investments in Nigeria's long-term economic transformation. The relationship extends beyond government-to-government engagement, with significant contributions from the Canadian-Nigerian diaspora.

Sproul also mentioned the growing commercial relationship, citing the sixth Canada-Africa Business Conference held in Lagos, which attracted 220 participants from 31 Canadian companies. He expressed confidence that the Canada-Nigeria relationship will continue to expand through closer collaboration among governments, businesses, and civil society.
