Nigeria and Philippines Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Nigeria and the Philippines have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, as discussed in a meeting led by Margaret Ebeshi in Abuja. The focus areas include expanding cooperation in education, trade, investment, information technology, labor mobility, tourism, maritime affairs, and the creative industries.

Ambassador Mellejor revealed that there are currently 9,000 Nigerian students studying in the Philippines. The Nigerian Minister commended the Philippine government for its support of Nigerian students and welcomed efforts to enhance their welfare.

Additionally, both nations are exploring opportunities in digital services and business process outsourcing, including the import of Nigerian liquefied natural gas. The discussions are set to deepen cooperation within the existing bilateral framework, with a forthcoming Nigeria-Philippines Joint Commission aimed at strengthening Nigeria's engagement in Southeast Asia.
