Anambra Launches Rabies-Free Dog Campaign and Show

A significant initiative to promote rabies-free dogs was launched in Anambra State, Nigeria, through a partnership involving the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) and local dog breeders. The campaign included a large-scale awareness program and a dog show, marking the first event of its kind in the state.

The Director of Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Agriculture in Awka opened the event, emphasizing the dangers of rabies and the importance of regular vaccinations for dogs. The campaign aims to eliminate rabies and promote responsible dog ownership, encouraging pet owners to ensure proper feeding, regular veterinary attention, and secure housing for their pets.

The event featured 100 dogs from various breeds, including Rottweilers, Caucasians, Alsatians, German Shepherds, and Pit Bulls. Ughaerumba, the chairman of the NVMA Anambra State chapter, urged dog owners to care for their pets properly and commit to ongoing support for future programs aimed at improving animal healthcare and preventing infections among pets.
