Anambra Hosts First Dog Show with Anti-Rabies Campaign

The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) and the Anambra State Dog Breeder Association launched the first dog show in Anambra State alongside a free anti-rabies vaccination campaign. The event, held in Onitsha, aimed to promote public health and animal welfare.

Dr. Rose Basil Ejidik, the Director of Veterinary Services at the Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture, emphasized the dangers of rabies as a deadly zoonotic disease and urged dog owners to ensure regular vaccinations for their pets.

The event attracted dog owners, veterinarians, breeders, and pet care product dealers from across Anambra State. Dr.

Victor Ughaerumba, the chairman of NVMA's Anambra State chapter, noted that the program was part of activities marking World Veterinary Day 2026. Dr.

Ifeoma Etukokwu, chairperson of the local organizing committee, attributed the event's success to cooperation among stakeholders. The event featured 100 participating dogs, including breeds like Rottweilers and German Shepherds, and included competitions and lectures on basic dog training.
