Nigeria Secures Spot in 2026 African Volleyball Nations Cup

Nigeria's men's volleyball team qualified for the 2026 African Volleyball Nations Cup by defeating Benin Republic 3-1 during the Zone 3 qualifiers held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, from September 7 to 21. The match began with Benin Republic taking the first set 25-21 amid controversial officiating.

Nigeria responded by leveling the match with a second set win of 25-21 and then dominated the remaining sets, winning 25-15 and 25-20. This victory handed Benin Republic their first defeat of the tournament and extended Nigeria's unbeaten run to four matches, having previously defeated Niger Republic 3-1, Côte d'Ivoire 3-0, and Togo 3-1.

Musa Nimrod, President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, expressed satisfaction with the team's progress and highlighted the importance of continued support for the sport in Nigeria. The Nigerian team is set to conclude their Zone 3 qualifying campaign against Burkina Faso on Saturday.
