Nigeria Rejects US Travel Warning as Unbalanced Report

The Nigerian federal government has officially rejected a travel warning issued by the US State Department, which advised American citizens to avoid travel to Nigeria due to security concerns. Spokesperson Mohammed Idris Rabiu Ibrahim described the report as unbalanced and not fully reflective of the security progress made in the country.

The US warning highlighted security challenges across various states, including Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, and others, urging the avoidance of travel to these regions. In response, Ibrahim emphasized that the government's assessment of security varies significantly across different states and noted ongoing military operations aimed at weakening criminal networks.

He reassured that Nigeria remains open to travel and investment, stressing the importance of accurate and balanced information from international partners. The government acknowledged the right of countries to issue travel advisories but urged that such advisories should reflect the current security situation more accurately.
