BPP Reports N1.1 Trillion Savings for Federal Government

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) announced a total saving of N1.1 trillion for the Federal Government, attributed to effective budget evaluation. Dr.

Adebowale A. Adedokun, the Director-General of BPP, made this statement during a courtesy visit from the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) in Abuja.

NIQS President Dr. Aminu Muhammad Bashir acknowledged the progress made under Dr.

Adedokun’s leadership, referencing the July 13 launch of the National Guidelines for Public Procurement of Food and Related Services and a May 2026 circular requiring final designs before contract awards. These measures aim to address issues like excessive contract variations and cost overruns.

Dr. Bashir also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for rejecting an amendment to the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN) Act, which NIQS believed could overlap with existing procurement mandates, potentially undermining public accountability.

He urged the BPP to clearly define the roles of statutory bodies, including quantity surveyors, in new procurement frameworks.
