Nigeria Sets Mixed 4x400m Record at Commonwealth Games

At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Nigeria established the first-ever record in the Mixed 4x400m Relay, with the team comprising Edidiong Udo, Esther Joseph, Samuel Ogazi, and Patience Okon-George winning their heat in a time of 3:14.58, ahead of Australia, which finished in 3:15.21. This performance made them the first Commonwealth Games record holders in this event, which debuted at the Games.

Ruth Usoro also excelled by qualifying for the women's long jump final, achieving a season's best jump of 6.77m on her first attempt, surpassing the automatic qualifying standard of 6.70m. Kola Daniel, special adviser on media at the National Sports Commission, confirmed the relay record, describing it as a historic achievement.

Team Nigeria's athletics contingent continues to show strong performances, indicating a robust medal push at the Games.
