Nigeria Sets African U20 Relay Record in Oregon

Team Nigeria achieved a remarkable feat at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, by setting a new African U20 record in the mixed 4×100 metres relay. The Nigerian team, consisting of Tejiri Godwin, Rosemary Nwankwo, Perfect Faye, and Miracle Ezechukwu, finished second in their heat with a time of 41.91 seconds, qualifying for the final.

This performance not only established a new Nigerian U20 record but also marked the fastest time ever recorded by an African U20 team in this event. Miracle Ezechukwu's impressive anchor leg, clocked at 10.05 seconds, was crucial in securing their position.

Additionally, Jecinta Lawrence and Faith Ezechukwu advanced to the semifinals in the women's 400 metres, with Lawrence finishing at 53.97 seconds and Ezechukwu at 54.38 seconds. Precious Opinion also qualified for the final in the men’s triple jump with a personal best leap of 16.02 metres, surpassing the automatic qualification standard.
