Bajowa Advocates for Nigeria's Regional Restructuring

Ex-Ondo State Secretary to the Government (SSG) Bajowa argues for the restructuring of Nigeria along regional lines. He assesses President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's performance since taking office in 2023, highlighting the economic challenges inherited, including a significant fiscal deficit and low government revenue.

Bajowa notes that Tinubu's removal of the fuel subsidy and unification of exchange rates have led to a substantial increase in government revenue, allowing the servicing of public debt through internally generated revenue. Monthly allocations to states have risen to nearly ₦2.5 trillion, facilitating the payment of workers' salaries, implementation of a new minimum wage exceeding ₦70,000, and major infrastructure projects.

He emphasizes the need for state Houses of Assembly to strengthen their oversight roles to ensure proper utilization of these funds. Bajowa also discusses the importance of accountability in public office and calls for fundamental reforms in Nigeria's local government system, which he believes should reflect the country's diversity.
