Nigeria to Spend N6.54 Trillion on Spare Parts in 2025

The Federal Government of Nigeria disclosed that the country will spend approximately N6.54 trillion on vehicle spare parts in 2025, with N2.7 trillion earmarked for vehicle imports. Joseph Osanipin, the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), made this announcement during the 2026 West Africa Automotive Show held in Lagos.

He stressed the significant economic potential of Nigeria's automotive aftermarket component manufacturing sector and the urgent need to prioritize local component production to strengthen the aftermarket ecosystem, reduce import dependency, and create jobs. The spending on spare parts is expected to exceed the annual budgets of several African countries combined.

Osanipin warned that Nigeria risks losing opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) if it fails to develop local manufacturing capabilities. He noted that the automotive industry’s sustainability relies on a robust aftermarket support system, including workshops, spare parts distribution, and skilled technicians.
