Spare Parts Dealers Seek FG Partnership to Boost Auto Industry

The Automotive Spare Parts Dealers Association of Nigeria (ASPDA), led by President Ngozi Emecheb, is advocating for a partnership with the federal government to boost the automotive industry. During the 2026 West Africa Automotive Show in Lagos, Emecheb highlighted the need for collaboration to strengthen local manufacturing and improve the distribution of spare parts.

The association aims to evolve from unstructured roadside operations to a modern business hub that supports Nigeria's industrial agenda. Emecheb discussed ongoing cooperation with the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) to enhance local automotive products and combat counterfeit parts.

He praised the federal government's vehicle financing initiative targeting Nigerian youth as a significant step toward improving access to mobility. Emecheb warned against the consequences of dealing in counterfeit products and called for stricter enforcement measures to protect consumers.

He insisted that Nigerian-made spare parts outperform imports and urged investors to be cautious of poorly structured joint ventures.
