Nigeria Boosts Security Ties with UK and Germany

Nigeria is strengthening its security ties with the United Kingdom and Germany to enhance its fight against terrorism. This reaffirmation of commitment occurred during a visit to the headquarters in Maiduguri on Wednesday.

Harper from the UK emphasized the long-standing relationship between the UK and Nigeria, which is anchored in mutual respect and a commitment to democracy, rule of law, and human rights. He commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their efforts in tackling insurgency in the northeast.

The UK will continue to provide training support through the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT), while Germany is exploring areas for future collaboration, particularly in capacity building to enhance operational effectiveness against terrorism. Maj Gen Theatre Command highlighted the contributions of both the UK and German defense attaches to counter-insurgency operations, including the Abubakar training initiative aimed at enhancing the skills and proficiency of troops in response to evolving security challenges.
