Nigeria Targets 22 Gold Medals at Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Nigeria has set an ambitious target of winning 22 gold medals at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the Nigeria Sports Commission, expressed strong confidence in Team Nigeria's readiness to excel on the global stage.

This optimism is bolstered by recent international performances, including the team's arrival in Botswana for the World Athletics Relay. Olopade highlighted the positive reforms across the sports system, supported by leadership from Shehu Dikko and President Bola Tinubu.

The previous Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022 saw Nigeria secure a total of 35 medals, comprising 12 gold, 9 silver, and 14 bronze, leading to a seventh-place finish overall. Notably, female athletes contributed significantly to this success, delivering 12 gold medals and showcasing Nigeria's growing strength in women's sports.
