FG Launches Committee for Engineering Education Reform

The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated a ministerial committee aimed at reforming engineering and technology education, chaired by Engr. Ali Rabiu, President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

The initiative, launched in Abuja on Tuesday, is part of a strategic plan to address the long-standing disconnect between theoretical instruction and practical expertise among graduates, which has undermined employability and weakened the country's competitiveness in the global technology landscape. The committee will oversee the implementation of special high-impact intervention projects, with an earmarked budget of approximately N20 billion from TETFund's 2026 disbursement framework.

This funding will focus on upgrading engineering workshops and laboratories in selected universities across Nigeria. The project aims to produce graduates capable of designing, fabricating, and testing innovative industrial solutions.

The committee is also tasked with ensuring compliance with approved standards and maintaining transparency in fund utilization.
