Nigerian Air Force completes assembly of two H125 helicopters in Lagos
The NAF has finished reassembling its first two H125 helicopters at its Lagos base with support from aircraft manufacturer Airbus.
The Nigerian Air Force has finished putting together two H125 helicopters at its facility in Ikeja, Lagos. The aircraft arrived from Airbus Helicopters and were assembled locally with technical support from Airbus personnel, the NAF announced this week.
The reassembly effort marks a step forward in building the NAF's internal technical capabilities. The process allowed Nigerian Air Force staff to gain hands-on experience in handling modern helicopter maintenance and support procedures.
Such training is intended to reduce the service's need for outside assistance when caring for rotary-wing aircraft. Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Chief of the Air Staff, highlighted the importance of the project in strengthening working relationships with international partners while transferring practical knowledge to local personnel.
The assembly work demonstrated the potential for more complex aircraft maintenance and support operations to be carried out domestically. The H125 helicopters are part of the NAF's fleet modernization efforts.
The successful completion of the local reassembly process suggests that future aircraft deliveries may follow a similar pattern, with assembly and initial technical work performed within Nigeria rather than entirely abroad.
