Nigerian Army Arrests 46 Suspected Illegal Immigrants

On June 11, 2026, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Nigeria Immigration Service, arrested 46 suspected illegal immigrants in Ogun State. The suspects included 18 nationals from Burkina Faso, 23 citizens of Côte d'Ivoire, four Togolese nationals, and one Senegalese national, comprising 36 males and 10 females.

Major Idereghi Samuel Akari of the 35 Artillery Brigade in Alamala, Abeokuta, confirmed the arrests in a statement released to journalists. The operation took place in various locations, including Ijebu Imushin and Ijebu Iles, and preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals had allegedly resided in the state for approximately six months without valid immigration documents.

During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchant workers affiliated with Qnet, an online marketing platform. The Nigerian Army's command, led by Brigadier General Fridai Oguch Onu, commended the troops and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
