Nigerian Troops Arrest Sudanese Terrorist and Ghanaian Woman

On July 19, 2023, troops from the Nigerian Army's 115 Task Force Battalion conducted a counter-terrorism operation in the Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, resulting in the arrest of Musa Fashir, a 32-year-old Sudanese national suspected of being a terrorist fighter. Alongside him, Mari Florenc, a 36-year-old woman claiming illegal immigration from Ghana, was also apprehended.

The operation was led based on intelligence and aimed at disrupting terrorist activities in the northeast region of Nigeria. The spokesperson for the task force, Captain Moham Goni, stated that preliminary intelligence linked Fashir to foreign terrorist elements operating in the area, raising concerns about the involvement of foreign actors in supporting insurgency.

Both suspects are currently in military custody, undergoing profiling and interrogation to establish their identities and determine the extent of their activities and any links to terrorist groups or transnational criminal networks.
